Place in the Sun’s Keeping Pace with Fast Food

BurgerWhen you just want a quick pick-me-up that only fast food will provide, elevate the occasion with a glass of wine from Place in the Sun, says assistant white-wine maker Praisy Dlamini.

“Most people admit they have one or two nights a month when they eat fast food because it is just so convenient! As a working mother, I find it an easy alternative to cooking after a long, busy day,” says Praisy.

Praisy talks ditching the soda and replacing it with the ideal wine to complement your meal.

Burger, Fries and Shiraz

“This is a meal that needs the right wine to prevent it from feeling like a carbohydrate overload,” says Praisy. “Place in the Sun Shiraz is rich in plum, red berry and white pepper aromas and flavours, yet still dry on the palate. Also, you’ll find the savoury, smoky notes complement the beefy flavours of the burger.”

Pizza and Bold Reds

Pairing your favourite pizza with a great wine may be easier than you think, she says. “Since most pizzas have the acidity of tomato and fat from cheese, it is best to pair with a bold-flavoured but smooth-textured red. For a simple, straight-forward pizza such as a Margarita, try the Merlot, that’s soft and fruity. For meaty pizzas, a fuller-bodied wine like the Cabernet Sauvignon will work better.”


Fish, Chips and Sauvignon Blanc

“For fish and chips you want a crisp, zesty wine to cut through the oil and batter. Place in the Sun’s Sauvignon Blanc is refreshing and lively with notes of passion fruit and litchi, with just the right balance of acidity”.


Fried Chicken and Chardonnay

Praisy’s advice is to pair this meal with Place in the Sun’s unwooded Chardonnay. “The lively citrus notes work an absolute treat!”
